It's a hard life these days for wild Atlantic salmon and trout. In fact, fewer than 10 per cent of salmon smolt will find their way back to the Gander River because of a number of factors at sea such as preditation and climate change. The wild Atlantic salmon is still considered a threatened species in some areas and in some cases it has been listed as endangered. Trout populations are also declining. The Gander River Management Association (GRMA) and the members who make up the Association have been the caretaker and friend of the Gander River watershed since 1994 through ecosystem management consisting of scientific research, river enhancement, infrastructure development and marketing.
The GRMA works to protect and preserve open, equal, and affordable access for all users of the watershed, and strives to manage the wilderness resources in a sustainable manner while generating meaningful recreation and economic opportunities for the people.
If you share our love and concern of the river- whether you're an angler, boater, cottage owner, environmentalist, or just a concerned individual- we ask that you support our efforts to revitalize and protect the Gander River watershed. Your purchase of a $10 General Public Membership will provide untold benefits to both you and the river for generations to come.
Membership fees will be invested where it counts: management, protection, research, enhancement and development that benefits all users of the watershed.
Our hope is that present and future generations will be able to enjoy the splendor of the "Mighty" Gander River- your membership will go a long way toward us all achieving this goal.
Membership includes Membership card, lapel pin, and newsletter. Members also have there voice heard within the association. Four seats on our voulunteer board of directors are chosen by members.
